Talk: "AI for generalized robotic manipulation", Skyler Wiernik

Robots of the future will require a generalized understanding of their environment in order to complete tasks alongside humans. The foundation of these systems is being built today at companies like Physical Intelligence, Gemini Robotics, K Scale Labs, and Hugging Face. Furthermore, much of this work has been open source, and you can build upon it at home for under $500. I'll go over some of the foundational research around difusion, VLAs and VLMs, demo Hugging Face's Lerobot platform, and show you how to train your first model at home.

I've been building robots since I was a kid, and recently graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. I'm now writing software at Amazon Robotics, and playing with VLAs in my free time. Previously, I competed in FIRST Robotics, built developer tools at Apple, and contributed to open source humanoids.
